There is no meaningful single price for a WordPress website because “a WordPress website” can describe anything from a five-page brochure site to a municipal site with hundreds of documents or a custom application using WordPress as its content-management layer.
The main cost is the work around the website
Design and development matter, but content, migration, integrations and custom functionality can be just as significant. Rebuilding twenty clean pages is very different from moving years of news, PDFs, staff profiles, events, products or legacy database content into a new structure.
Templates reduce some costs, not every cost
Using an existing theme can reduce design and front-end development time for a straightforward site. It does not remove the need to plan navigation, organize content, configure forms, improve mobile behaviour, optimize images, test accessibility or handle redirects and launch tasks.
Custom features change the project quickly
Membership, booking logic, complex forms, external APIs, searchable directories, custom reporting, e-commerce rules or business-specific workflows can turn a standard site into a software-development project. Those requirements should be identified early so the proposal reflects the real scope.
Remember ongoing costs
Budget for domain renewal, hosting, maintenance, software licences where applicable, content updates and future improvements. A site that is inexpensive to launch but difficult to maintain can cost more over its useful life than a cleaner build with a slightly higher initial price.
A useful quote should explain assumptions
Instead of focusing only on the total, look for a proposal that explains what content is included, how many design rounds are expected, who enters content, what happens to the old site, how forms and integrations are handled, what training is included and what ongoing services cost.
The practical answer
The right price depends on scope. A good proposal should make the scope understandable enough that you can see what you are paying for and how changes to the requirements would affect the budget.
