How to Use Email Forwarders and Autoresponders in cPanel

Forward mail to another address or set an automatic out-of-office reply without changing the mailbox itself.

Forwarders and autoresponders solve different problems. A forwarder sends a copy of incoming mail somewhere else. An autoresponder sends an automatic reply to the sender.

Add a forwarder

If a real mailbox exists at the forwarding address, cPanel can keep the message in that mailbox and also forward a copy. If you do not want two copies, confirm the intended setup before deleting the mailbox.

  1. Open Forwarders in cPanel.
  2. Choose Add Forwarder.
  3. Enter the address you want to forward and the destination address.
  4. Save the forwarder and send a test message.

Add an automatic reply

Messages continue to be delivered to the mailbox while the autoresponder is active.

  1. Open Autoresponders in cPanel.
  2. Choose the correct domain and email address.
  3. Enter a clear subject and message.
  4. Set the start and end time if the reply is temporary.
  5. Save the autoresponder and test it from an outside address.
