Events Acadia

Events Acadia needed a website that could present Acadia University as much more than a collection of individual facilities.

The organization supports a wide range of events, including sporting events, conferences, meetings, concerts, performances, weddings and other large gatherings. Prospective organizers may also need information about accommodations, catering, technical services, ticketing and other event requirements.

The challenge was to bring all of this information together without creating a website that felt complicated or institutional.

The site also had to work for different audiences. An event organizer researching venues has very different needs from someone looking for details about an upcoming event, while visitors staying on campus may primarily be interested in accommodations and local information.

The website was structured around the decisions visitors need to make rather than around Acadia University’s internal organization.

Venues and facilities are grouped according to how they can be used, while related information about accommodations, meals and event services is readily accessible as visitors plan an event.

Upcoming and past events provide another side of the site, demonstrating the variety of activities hosted at Acadia while also giving spectators practical information about attending them.

Strong photography and clear page layouts allow the facilities and the Wolfville setting to do much of the visual work, while responsive layouts keep the large amount of information manageable on phones, tablets and desktop computers.

WordPress provides Events Acadia with a practical way to maintain changing event, venue and visitor information without requiring changes to the underlying website.

Events Acadia has a single website that brings together information that would otherwise be spread across individual facilities, services and departments.

Prospective organizers can explore available venues alongside accommodation, catering and supporting services, while people attending events can find current event and visitor information from the same site.

The structure also gives Events Acadia the flexibility to add and update events, venue information and supporting content as requirements change.

The result is a website that works both as an event-planning resource and as a showcase for Acadia University and Wolfville as an event destination.
